Global Dad Survey 2020

Report

In May 2020, Suit Tie Stroller released a global dad survey to understand the impact of the Covid-19 isolation restrictions on fathers across the world. Thank you to all the dads who completed the survey!!!

Considerations and opportunities for other dads

This report accompanies the Global Dad Survey2020 to help dads reflect on the experiences and lessons learned from the COVID-19 lockdowns. While drafted in 2020 to help dads establish their new norms, this report continues to remind men who experienced the COVID-19 lockdowns with their children of the importance of being an active father.

While the extremes of this period of time forced us to reimagine a different way of life, even for a limited period of time, today it is a reminder that life can be different. For many, work can be performed effectively anywhere. Men can build bonds with their children when they spend time with them - forced or otherwise.

The lessons from COVID-19 should not be forgotten. We need to remember the past, remind ourselves of what we learned and continue seeking what is important for our lives to come.

Considerations and opportunities for employers

Many organisations have been racing to return to ‘normal’ from the moment lockdowns ended. Returning to the office. Viewing employers as employees, not as fathers, mothers or members of families.

Focusing on the comfort of the old world, we are losing the many insights of a different relationship between work and life. In doing so, we risk losing the many insights and lessons about the importance of giving mothers AND fathers control of their work and family life, and the power of trust in creating healthy work culture.

Reading this report will remind workplaces of the lessons learned from the past and challenge them in how to continue pursuing family friendly workplace cultures.
